THE PEOPLE SPEAK
“Before Michael Moore, there was Howard Zinn” – Boston Herald
Since its original landmark publication in 1980, Howard Zinn’s “A People’s History of the United States” has chronicled American history from the bottom up, challenging the official version of history and its traditional emphasis on great men in high places – to focus rather on those people who have been neglected in history, the defiant Native Americans, the mutinous soldiers, the striking workers, the rebellious women, and the dissidents of all kinds.
“A People’s History” has sold over 1.5 million copies and has been published in Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Japan, China, Korea, Turkey, Czech Republic, Sweden, Norway, The Netherlands, the Middle East, Russia, Israel, etc…
The dramatic structure of THE PEOPLE SPEAK is to visualize through readings, supplementary performances, archival footage and additional performances the many great moments in American history that Zinn has brought to our attention through “A People’s History” and in the book he produced with Anthony Arnove, “Voices of a People’s History”. THE PEOPLE SPEAK will finally capture on film the struggles of the people and give them their due importance in history.
