Charlie and his adorable girl friend Beth are madly in love. After proposing to her at a local hockey match, Charlie decides to plan a wedding so amazing even his impossibly difficult mother-in-law will finally accept him.
But disaster strikes when he is fired from his job and has no way to payoff the huge wedding debt. He turns to an equally desperate bank manager for a loan who bizarrely suggests that Charlie robs the bank.

However, the plan goes horribly wrong almost immediately. The bank is surrounded by the police and a SWAT team led by Beth's very macho ex-boyfriend descends on the scene. Just when he thinks that things can't get any worse, he realizes his future mother-in-law is one of the hostages!
